Chiefs get off to winning start as Downs and Bucs drop points

Kaizer Chiefs got to a winning start in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership after their Gauteng rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, dropped points.
Sundowns started their defence of the league title with a 1-1 draw against Chippa United on Saturday, as Khaya Mfecane's goal cancelled out Arthur Sales' opening strike at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
In Soweto, Pirates succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United, who scored through Siphesihle Mkhize to ensure that Babina Noko recorded their second win at the Orlando Stadium in 2025.
On Sunday, Chiefs secured a 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC courtesy of goals from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Glody Lilepo at Athlone Stadium, where Siviwe Nkwali was shown a straight red card on his full Stellies debut.
Meanwhile, Durban City and Siwelele FC registered victories on their PSL debut, as they claimed a 3-1 win and a 2-0 victory over Golden Arrows and TS Galaxy, respectively.
Therefore, Siwelele are placed at the top of the league standings, followed by Chiefs and Durban City, respectively, ahead of the midweek action across South Africa.
