Kaizer Chiefs fought back to hold Stellenbosch FC to a 1-1 draw in a Betway Premiership match played at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

It was a third successive draw for Amakhosi, who remained fourth in the standings and unbeaten this season. Coach Fernando Da Cruz's side will be hoping to return to winning ways when they visit Red Arrows in Zambia for their CAF Confederation Cup clash on Saturday.

Stellenbosch, on the other hand, extended their unbeaten run to four matches and sit seventh in the standings. Coach Gavin Hunt's side will rest this weekend before hosting Chippa United on October 30 in the Betway Premiership.

Amakhosi created the better chances in the first half but were wasteful, with the clearest opportunity falling to Wandile Duba, who was sent through on goal only to be denied by goalkeeper Sage Stephens on the half-hour mark.

Prior to that, Stellies had a rare chance in the 21st minute when Sinoxolo Kwayiba hit the woodwork with Chiefs goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner beaten, and the score remained 0-0 at the halftime break in Nasrec after a lively first-half.

An even more compelling second half unfolded as Kwayiba claimed his second goal of the season to give Stellenbosch a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute, the strike expertly set up by eventual Man of the Match Terrence Mashego, the Mamelodi Sundowns loanee.

However, Chiefs responded through Mduduzi Shabalala, who restored parity at 1-1 with his second goal of the season just two minutes before the hour mark. Thereafter both sides pressed relentlessly in search of a late winner that never materialised, and the contest ended in a hard-fought draw.
