Durban City’s historic 2026 Nedbank Cup triumph will be remembered for more than lifting the trophy. The club’s success helped deliver a new multipurpose sport court to Oceanview Primary School in Chatsworth.

Nedbank, together with the PSL and The Sports Trust and Durban City Football Club (FC), officially handed over the facility to the school, giving approximately 376 learners access to a dedicated space for football, netball, basketball, volleyball and tennis.

The court is the 11th multipurpose sport facility delivered through the initiative, extending Nedbank and The Sports Trust’s investment in sporting infrastructure at schools and in communities across South Africa.

As part of the legacy associated with its 2026 Nedbank Cup victory, Durban City FC was invited to nominate a school to receive a multipurpose sport court. The club selected Oceanview Primary School in Havenside, Chatsworth, ensuring that its success on the national football stage creates an enduring benefit in its home province.

Durban City FC lifted the Nedbank Cup for the first time after having defeated TS Galaxy 2–1 in the final at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. The victory secured the club’s first major trophy and saw it become the first KwaZulu-Natal club to win the Nedbank Cup.

For Nedbank, the handover demonstrates how the impact of the tournament can extend beyond professional football to the communities that support the game.

'The Nedbank Cup has always been about more than the 90 minutes on the pitch. Football has an extraordinary ability to bring people together, inspire young people, and create opportunities beyond the game itself.

'Durban City made history by lifting the trophy for the first time earlier this year, and we wanted that moment to have meaning long after the final whistle. This court turns that achievement into something tangible for the young people of Chatsworth: a place where they can play, discover their talents, build confidence and, hopefully, begin writing sporting stories of their own.'

The new facility provides a safe and accessible environment in which learners can participate in several sporting codes. Through its partnership with The Sports Trust, Nedbank has previously invested more than R15.3 million on multipurpose sport courts at schools and in communities across South Africa, with each facility valued at approximately R2 million.

The Oceanview Primary School court expands that footprint to 11 facilities.

Durban City FC CEO, Younus Kadodia, said:

'Winning the Nedbank Cup was an unforgettable moment for everyone associated with Durban City, but having the opportunity to turn that achievement into something meaningful for young people makes it even more special.

'We are proud that Oceanview Primary School will be part of the story of our first Nedbank Cup title. Long after the celebrations have ended, this court will remain here for learners to play, grow and dream.'

The initiative also forms part of Nedbank’s longstanding support for sport development. Through the Nedbank Sport Affinity programme, more than R53 million has been raised over 32 years in support of sport development and infrastructure initiatives across South Africa.

For Oceanview Primary School the facility significantly expands the sporting opportunities available at the school.

Oceanview Primary School principal, Mrs Ragini Moodley said:

'For our learners, this is much more than a new sports court. It is a space where they can participate, learn, build friendships, and discover what they are capable of.

'We are deeply grateful to Nedbank, PSL, The Sports Trust, and Durban City FC for investing in our school and our community. We hope this facility will inspire our learners to participate in sport and dream bigger about what they can achieve.'

The official handover included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by sporting activities and exhibition matches involving learners and guests.

As learners took to the court for the first time, the facility marked the next chapter in Durban City FC’s 2026 Nedbank Cup story: a trophy won on the football pitch has created an opportunity for the next generation to step onto a court of their own.
