Siwelele got back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership this weekend following a tense 1-0 win against Orbit College at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Orbit College made their intentions known from the first whistle as seen with Lesedi Kapinga’s right-footed shot from outside the area in the first minute. Katlego Mkhabela likewise joined in on Orbit’s attacking excursions but failed to make the most of his opportunities.

However, it was Siwelele who broke the deadlock in the 10th minute, after Chibuike Ohizu capped off a swift counter attacking move with a right-footed shot from the middle of the goal.

While neither side created any notable scoring chances midway through the first-half, Siwelele edged their counterparts to the possession count, while Orbit played most of their football in their own half.

Orbit College looked lively during the opening exchanges of the second-45 but did little to trouble Ricardo Goss in goal. At the other end of the pitch, Siyabonga Ndebele came agonisingly close to getting his name on the scoresheet in the 67th minute after he struck the bar with a header from close range following a set-piece situation.

Siwelele piled on the pressure during the closing stages of the tie, as the likes of Kgaogelo Sekgota, Gamphani Lungu and Manelis Mazibuko registered shots at goal.

Orbit College battled to create big chances throughout the 90 minutes, while Siwelele’s 14 shots at goal dwarfed Orbit’s eight shots in the final third. Tenth placed Siwelele thus returned to the winning column for the first time in four matches after noting three consecutive draws before this weekend

At the low end of the table, Orbit College remained in 15th position on 18 points and have now recorded three defeats in their last five league ties.
