Grobler fires SuperSport to second spot

Bradley Grobler's late goal earned SuperSport United a 1-0 win over Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership match at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday evening.

While the Citizens slipped down to the 10th spot on the league table and they will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they face Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

The Citizens were the better side in the first-half and they had a chance to grab an early goal when Khanyiso Mayo's volleyed effort flew over the crossbar in the sixth minute.

City were controlling the game and dominating possession, and they were unlucky not to score in the 44th minute when Taariq Fielies' glancing header hit the crossbar.

His teammate Thamsanqa Mkhize then hit the side-netting from the rebound and the score was 0-0 during the halftime break.

Masatsantsa continued to play on the counter-attack after the restart and they nearly scored when Siyabonga Nhlapo's header narrowly missed the target in the 65th minute.

The visitors pushed for a late goal and they got one when Patrick Maswanganyi set up Grobler, who netted with a header from close range to hand SuperSport a 1-0 lead.

The 82nd minute goal earned SuperSport a 1-0 victory, as Man of the Match Keagan Johannes and his teammates contained City in the dying minutes of the encounter.
