AmaTuks lead Hungry Lions on goal difference

The seventh round of the Motsepe Foundation Championship saw University of Pretoria cling onto top spot, while Black Leopards climbed out of the relegation zone.

Hungry Lions had briefly moved to the summit after they beat Venda Football Academy 2-0 at Windhoek Draught Park on Tuesday to make it back-to-back wins in the league.

But AmaTuks returned to the top of the table 24 hours later courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Magesi at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.

Tuks and second-placed Lions are tied on 15 points, with VFA dropping to 13th in the standings following a second successive defeat and Magesi just above them in 12th spot.

Baroka (7th) halted a two-match losing streak with a 2-1 victory over struggling Platinum City Rovers at the Global Stadium on Tuesday as fourth-placed Polokwane City edged Pretoria Callies 1-0 at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

Rovers dropped back into the basement after suffering their fifth loss of the campaign, with the Romans also being dragged into the relegation zone following a second defeat in a row.

Meanwhile, Uthongathi failed to make up ground on the frontrunners after playing out to a 1-1 draw with JDR Stars at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday.

The Cane Cutters slipped to sixth position after a third draw in four matches and the Hammer Boys are down in 12th spot, having seen their winless run extend to three games.

Elsewhere, Black Leopards escaped the drop zone thanks to their 1-0 triumph over title hopefuls TTM at the Thohoyandou Stadium, while All Stars and Cape Town Spurs could not be separated after their clash at the Giant Stadium finished goalless.

Lidoda Duvha pulled two points clear of the bottom two in 14th place as Vhadau Vha Damani slipped to third in the table. All Stars (8th) remain one point and two places ahead of the Urban Warriors, who extended their unbeaten run to three outings.

NB La Masia recorded back-to-back victories in the league for the first time this season after they beat fellow newcomers Casric Stars 2-1 at the BidVest Stadium.

Only goal difference is keeping La Masia (9th) out of the top half of the table as they are tied with All Stars on 10 points. Stars occupy sixth spot after seeing a two-game winning streak come to an end.
