Diski Challenge makes a return to Soshanguve

Top-flight football will make a return to the residents of Soshanguve for the second time when the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (PSL Reserve League) descends to the township this coming weekend at Giant Stadium.

It has been a few years since the Diski Challenge made it’s one and only stop in Soshanguve – back in 2015-16 season – the second year of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge.

The area has been starved of top flight football for over a decade and the visit by the Diski Festival will be a shot in the arm for the township and surroundings. Having already made visits through some of the country’s biggest townships, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) together with partners MultiChoice, continue to stay true to the league’s founding promise and commitment of taking football to the people, and the community of Soshanguve will yet again be beneficiary of that commitment.

This weekend’s festival, the league’s 21st round, will take place on Saturday, 25 and Sunday, 26 January 2020. Gates will open at 08h00 on both days.

With just 10 rounds of fixtures remaining in the 2019/20 Diski Challenge, Top Eight (8) spot is still up for grabs for teams. As announced by the Premier Soccer League and Partner MultiChoice, the teams finishing in the top 8 will be eligible to participate in the Diski Shield – the knockout version of the competition.

On Saturday, 14th placed Polokwane City and 12th placed Chippa United will lock horns at 10h00 while sixth-placed SuperSport United and third placed Orlando Pirates will battle at 12h00.

Second-place Bidvest Wits, with 46 points and defending champions Bloemfontein Celtic will play in the first match on Sunday when they clash at 10h00. After losing this past weekend, table toppers Mamelodi Sundowns, with 47 points, will play Kaizer Chiefs seventh- placed with 30 points in the last match of the festival. Kick-off for this match is at 12h00.

Entry is free on both days but members of the public will be issued with a ticket as part of access control. Tickets will be available at the stadium’s ticket office on Thursday and Friday from 13h00.

All four festival matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport 4 and 10 and on the Community TV channels available on DStv.
