Steenberg move up to fourth, JDR Stars cut Uthongathi's lead
It was another good weekend for the two promoted teams in the GladAfrica Championship, with both JDR Stars and Steenberg United recording home victories.
JDR, who won the ABC Motsepe League playoffs earlier this year, beat Jomo Cosmos 5-1 in Soshanguve on Saturday to move within four points of log leaders Uthongathi FC.
The Cane Cutters were held to a goalless draw at Princess Magogo Stadium by a TS Sporting side struggling at the wrong end of the league standings.
Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and Steenberg United complete the top four with the latter recording a narrow 1-0 win over a Royal Eagles in Sunday's only game.
Victory moved United up above Western Cape rivals Ajax Cape Town who were one of only two teams not in league action this weekend. Eagles remain rooted to the bottom of the standings on seven points, having conjured just one win in 12 matches.
Elsewhere, Cape Umoya United scored two late goals to condemn TS Galaxy to another defeat as their winless run in the league continues while Lebogang Mokoena scored the only goal of the game as Swallows FC beat Free Stars 1-0 in Bethlehem.
