Stellenbosch wait in the wings, as Royal Eagle go top

Round 28 of the 2018/19 National First Division season saw Royal Eagles claim top spot on the log after they defeated Ajax Cape Town 3-1 at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

Stellenbosch could still reclaim first place when they host TS Galaxy (who qualified for the Nedbank Cup by defeating Golden Arrows in Saturday’s semifinal) on Wednesday afternoon.

Elsewhere, Witbank Spurs have been relegated after they were beaten 3-0 at Ubuntu Cape Town and second-from-bottom Real Kings claimed a 3-1 away win over Mbombela United.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila boosted their promotion hopes by defeating TS Sporting 3-0, Pretoria University and Jomo Cosmos drew 2-2, Cape Umoya United edged Uthongathi 1-0 away and Maccabi FC outclassed Richards Bay 2-1 at Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Sunday.

The NFD will continue with the final match of this round, Stellenbosch v TS Galaxy on Wednesday 24 April, before the penultimate round of fixtures on Sunday 28 April.
