Ajax cut lead as Stellenbosch game abandoned
Round 23 of the 2018/19 National First Division season saw Stellenbosch’s lead at the head of the table cut to five points – though this was only after their match away to Real Kings was cancelled.
Stellies and Kings got their game at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium underway on Sunday, but heavy rains forced the abandonment of the match.
Elsewhere on the same day, Royal Eagles suffered a blow to their promotion hopes as they were held 1-1 at Jomo Cosmos, Cape Umoya United won 2-1 away to Ubuntu Cape Town in a derby clash, and Mbombela United edged Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 2-1.
The round opened on Friday with Ajax Cape Town getting the better of TS Sporting to move to within five points of the summit, while Saturday’s feature result was an impressive 4-1 win for TS Galaxy away to Witbank Spurs.
The NFD will continue with a full round of fixtures spread over next weekend, 16-17 March.
