Mthatha Bucks drop to bottom of log

Mthatha Bucks have dropped to the bottom of the National First Division log following the completion of round 22 this weekend.

The Eastern Cape side dropped into the basement on Sunday when Ubuntu Cape Town, the former occupiers of that dubious position, claimed a 3-1 home win over Pretoria University to move out of the relegation zone.

The round got underway on Friday afternoon at Parow Park, as hosts Cape Town All Stars were held to a goalless stalemate by Super Eagles.

Saturday’s key results were a 2-1 win for Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at home to Mbombela United and a 1-0 loss for Real Kings at Royal Eagles - the combination saw Tshakhuma reclaim second spot on the log.

Witbank Spurs boosted their outside hopes of reaching the playoffs with a 2-1 home win over Richards Bay and Mthatha Bucks were held 0-0 at home by Black Leopards.

Sunday’s other results saw Highlands Park continue their merry march toward the NFD title and automatic promotion with a 1-0 home win over Uthongathi FC, while Jomo Cosmos returned to form by beating Stellenbosch FC 2-1.

The NFD will continue with a full round of fixtures next weekend, March 2-4.
