Highlands drop points, All Stars go top

The third round of National First Division matches saw Cape Town All Stars and Stellenbosh FC retain their unbeaten records, with the former leading the way at the top of the log early in the 2017/18 season.
All Stars twice had to fight back from a goal down against Witbank Spurs at the Puma Stadium on Sunday, but goals from Cebo Meyiwa and Ruzaigh Gamildien ensured they claimed a 2-2 draw and moved to seven points at the head of the table. They were almost joined by fellow Western Cape club Stellenbosch, who led 1-0 away to Royal Eagles in Pietermaritzburg, thanks to a first-half strike from Tshepo Mabua, only to concede a late equaliser to be held 1-1. Sunday’s third and final match saw Uthongathi pick up their first win of the season, as they edged Black Leopards 1-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium to be within touching distance of the log leaders. Saturday’s action featured just four goals across five matches, with the defences clearly enjoying upper hand. Richards Bay were held 0-0 at home by Mthatha Bucks, while the match between Ubuntu Cape Town and Super Eagles at Athlone Stadium also finished goalless. Real Kings claimed their first win of the season as they edges Mbombela United 1-0 at Kanyamazane Stadium, while Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila defeated Jomo Cosmos by the same score line thanks to a late goal from Monde Mpambaniso. In Tshwane, Pretoria University claimed their first win - and handed Highlands Park their first defeat - with a 2-1 triumph over the Lions of the North: a first-half strike from Phelelani Shozi and an own goal from Larry Horaeb secured the three points for AmaTuks.
