Chiefs' winning streak halted by Rise And Shine
Kaizer Chiefs are still favourites to finish in the Betway Premiership's top three despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, April 18.
The Glamour Boys saw their five-match winning streak come to an end, but they have a comfortable seven-point cushion to fourth-placed AmaZulu, who suffered a 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates earlier in the day.
Phuti Mohafe's side looked to keep their top-eight hopes alive after picking up just five points from their last five outings, while Amakhosi went in search of a sixth straight win in the league for the first time since the 2019/20 season.
Both teams had plenty of opportunities to score and it was the visitors who threatened first very early on when Flavio Silva fired wide after combining with Glody Lilepo.
Thabiso Monyane failed to keep his shot down from range soon afterwards and Lilepo managed to test Lindokuhle Mathebula from a direct free-kick on eight minutes.
Rise And Shine started to get a foothold in the game and created a few chances of their own, with Juan Mutudza forcing Brandon Petersen into a save with a flicked header before Ndaumelo Maphangule unleashed a shot that also worked the Chiefs goalkeeper.
Mduduzi Shabalala almost broke the deadlock just before halftime, but Mathebula was equal to the task and made the save.
Mutudza went close again after the restart with a header from close range that was smothered by Petersen, while Lilepo drew a routine save out of Mathebula after linking up with Shabalala.
Given Msimango rose above his marker to send a towering header inches wide of the target from Gaston Sirino's cross and Lilepo saw another set-piece expertly tipped over the crossbar by Mathebula in the closing stages.
Bonginkosi Dlamini could have snatched all three points at the death, but he was unable to beat Petersen from close range as the spoils were ultimately shared between Polokwane and Chiefs.
