Siwelele edge Galaxy in Bloemfontein

Siwelele FC returned to winning form in the Betway Premiership by defeating TS Galaxy 1-0 at the Free State Stadium on Saturday evening.

The team in green and white claimed all three points – and broke a six-game winless streak across all competitions – thanks to a second-half header from Chibuike Ohizu, rising to 11th place on the log. This was Siwelele’s first win of 2026.

The Rockets, meanwhile, suffered a fourth successive league defeat and remained in eighth place. They may have dumped Mamelodi Sundowns out of the Nedbank Cup last week, but their Premiership form has nosedived since a win over Marumo Gallants in January.

Siwelele almost claimed the lead as early as the second minute, with Neo Rapoo whipping a shot on target direct from a free kick, though Galaxy goalkeeper Ira Tape made a sharp save low to his left to turn the ball away for a corner kick.

Galaxy offered an attacking threat of their own, though they struggled to find their radar, with Junior Zindoga (twice) and Igor Salatiel putting efforts off target inside the opening half hour.

Siwelele were close to an opener in the 40th minute with a smart turn-and-shot on the edge of the box from Grant Margeman, but the midfielder dragged his effort wide of the mark.

Goalless at the break, the teams continued to cancel each other out through the first quarter of the second half.

Galaxy looked to shuffle their pack just after the hour mark by introducing Mpho Mvelase and Sedwyn George. The former created a great chance for Seluleko Mahlambi in the 73rd minute, but the Galaxy attacker sent a weak effort straight at goalkeeper Ricardo Goss.

It was then the turn of a Siwelele substitute to make a decisive impact on the game, as Chibuike Ohizu got on the end of a Rapoo corner kick in the 79th minute and powered a great header beyond the reach of Tape for 1-0.

The hosts did well to control the remainder of the game, giving Galaxy no clear chances of scoring an equaliser.

The teams will be back in Betway Premiership action in the coming midweek, with Siwelele at home to Stellenbosch FC, and Galaxy hosting Orbit College, both on Tuesday, 3 March.
