Matuludi breaks Chippa hearts to fire Polokwane to fourth place
Polokwane City fought back to claim a 2-1 victory over Chippa United in the Betway Premiership match played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon, climbing to the fourth spot in the standings.
Coach Phuti Mohafe and his charges will be on the road in midweek as Polokwane are scheduled to lock horns with Orbit College in Rustenburg on Wednesday.
The Chilli Boys, on the other hand, slipped down to the 16th spot in the standings after registering their fifth defeat of the season. Coach Luc Eymael will be hoping to mastermind a victory when Chippa takes on log leaders, Sekhukhune United, in Polokwane on Wednesday.
Ayabulela Konqobe came into this match oozing with confidence, having picked up the Betway Premiership Man of the Match award in midweek. The defender-come-midfielder maintained his good form as he fired home a low shot to hand Chippa a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game.
However, Rise and Shine finished the first-half as the stronger of the two teams, and they deservedly levelled matters on the stroke of halftime. Seun Ndlovu was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box and the resultant penalty was converted by Lebohang Nkaki to make it 1-1 heading into the halftime break.
Both teams searched for more goals after the restart, with Malebogo Modise forcing goalkeeper Briam Bwire into making a decent save on the hour mark and at the other end, Bonginkosi Dlamini, who was looking to make it two goals in as many matches, saw his attempt being saved by keeper Elson Sithole in the 69th minute.
The hosts were awarded a free-kick in the Chilli Boys' half in stoppage time and inspired substitute Puleng Marema delivered a fantastic ball, which found Thabang Matuludi, who headed past Elson Sithole to seal Polokwane's 2-1 victory over Chippa on the day.
