Magesi defeat 10-man Siwelele for first win of the season

Magesi FC claimed their first win of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, defeating 10-man Siwelele FC 2-0 at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The match swung on a straight red card for Siwelele’s Samir Nurkovic in the first half, allowing Dikwena Tsa Meetse to dominate and score via Delano Abrahams and Thabang Sibanyoni.
The result lifted the hosts to 11th place on the log, with six points from seven matches, while Siwelele dropped to 14th on four points from seven matches – just one point above bottom-of-the-log Orbit College. The club formerly known as SuperSport United have gone six matches without a win.
Magesi created the first clear chance of the match, with Wonderboy Makhubu going free in the fifth minute, but he was denied one-on-one by Siwelele goalkeeper Ricardo Goss.
The hosts then suffered an injury blow, with defender Tshepo Makgoga making way for Lehlogonolo Mokone just before the midway point of the first half.
On 28 minutes Goss made another excellent save, reacting sharply to turn away a thunderous volley from Delano Abrahams which would have taken the net with it.
Siwelele suffered a major blow 10 minutes before the interval when striker Samir Nurkovic was shown a straight red card for retaliating to a challenge from Tshepo Mashigo.
With a numerical advantage, Dikwena Tsa Meetse dialled up the attacking pressure and claimed the lead in injury time before the break, as Abrahams beat a defender down the left flank before scoring from a tight angle via the legs of Goss.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Magesi dominating possession and Siwelele looking to hit on the break and threaten from set pieces.
The hosts deservedly claimed a second goal in the 71st minute, with Thabang Sibanyoni getting on the end of Nkanyiso Zungu’s corner kick to score with a glancing header.
Now fully in control of the game, Magesi were able to see out the remaining 20 minutes, plus injury time, in relative comfort – bringing up their much-needed first three-point haul of the league campaign.
The teams will return to Premiership action next midweek, with Siwelele hosting Orlando Pirates on Tuesday 23 September, while Magesi will be away to Richards Bay the following day.
