CT City look to humble Chiefs

Cape Town City will welcome Kaizer Chiefs in the 2019 Telkom Knockout Cup Round of 16 clash at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 3:00 pm.

The Citizens are heading into this clash winless in their last seven matches across all competitions having lost 2-1 to AmaZulu FC in their last match.

City will be hoping to go all the way and clinch the Telkom Knockout Cup for the second time having won the title in 2016 after defeating SuperSport United in the final.

Benni McCarthy, the City head coach, is confident that they can defeat Chiefs despite having lost 2-1 to the Soweto giants in an Absa Premiership clash earlier this season.

"I think we took positives from the last game we played against them even though the scoreline wasn’t favouring us," McCarthy said.

"I think the way we applied ourselves in that game, we have got nothing to fear."

Meanwhile, Chiefs are coming into this clash in good form having won their last three Absa Premiership matches including their 2-0 win over Golden Arrows in their previous game.

Amakhosi are under pressure to end their four-year trophy drought and they will be keen to clinch a record extending 14th Telkom Knockout Cup this year.

Kearyn Baccus, the Chiefs central midfielder, is keen to help Ernst Middendorp's side win trophies starting with the Telkom Knockout Cup.

“I’m relishing the prospect of playing my first cup game in South Africa,” Baccus said.

"We would like to win everything on offer this season. We will work hard to achieve this dream.”
