Baroka FC beat Leopards in Limpopo derby
Baroka FC ended their losing streak against Black Leopards in the Absa Premiership by beating their Limpopo rivals 2-0 at Thohoyandou Stadium in Thohoyandou on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Mfanafuthi Shozi and Tshidiso Patjie leading the visitors to victory and up to sixth place on the log standings, while Lidoda Duvha remain 12th.
Following a cagey first half hour, Bakgaga hit the front in the 10th minute through Shozi. Jonas Mendes failed to hold onto Gerald Phiri Jnr's low free-kick, allowing the midfielder to poke home for the easiest of finishes.
Leopards went in search of a way back into the game and registered their first real shot in anger in the 41st minute as Mwape Musonda arrowed a shot straight at Elvis Chipezeze in the Baroka goal.
The duo continued their battle following the break, but the Zimbabwean shot-stopper remained up to the task, denying last season's golden boot winner on two further occasions.
Baroka duly doubled their advantage against the run of play as Patjie curled a stunning right-footed shot off the inside of the post and into the back of the net in the 67th minute.
Leopards pushed forward in the closing stages, but were finding it difficult to break down a stubborn Baroka defence, with a disappointing afternoon summed up when Lifa Hlongwane's effort from an acute angle whistled between the goalkeeper and goal-line without going in.
For Baroka, the victory was their first in South Africa's top division over their Limpopo rivals.
