SuperSport cruise past Leopards in Atteridgeville
SuperSport United eased to a 4-0 Absa Premiership win over Black Leopards at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday afternoon.
James Keene, Aubrey Modiba and Evans Rusike found the back of the net for Matsatsantsa, who rise up to fifth place of the log standings, ahead of their MTN8 final showdown against Cape Town City next weekend.
Lidoda Duvha duly fall down to the bottom of the table following their third successive defeat in the league.
The supporters were still taking their place in the stands when Keene nodded the hosts in front in the second minute of the clash.
A long ball forward found Fagrie Lakay, who held play up well before passing to Siyabonga Nhlapo, whose first-time cross found the forward in acres of space. Keene made no mistake, powering home from close range.
Matsatsantsa dominated the ensuing minutes with Lakay causing all sorts of havoc down the right flank.
The speedster saw an attempt whistle inches wide before teeing up Rusike in the sixth minute, but the Zimbabwe international could only succeed in guiding his header straight at King Ndlovu with the goal at his mercy.
Lidoda Duvha finally conjured a shot in anger three minutes later, but Ronwen Williams was on hand to keep Themba Ndlovu's deflected effort from finding the back of the net.
SuperSport regained ascendancy with Nyiko Sibanda well positioned to clear Keene's shot off the line after King Ndlovu denied Rusike in the 15th minute.
Leopards captain Marks Munyai then almost put the ball past his own goalkeeper four minutes later, with the ball cannoning off the woodwork and out of danger, much to the fullback’s relief.
SuperSport finally doubled their lead in the 33rd minute of the game following a quick counter. Rusike made a pin-point pass to tee up Modiba, who guided the ball into an open net to leave Leopards reeling. The home side were well worth their 2-0 lead at the interval.
The chances dried up in the early stages of the second half, with the first attempt at goal of the stanza falling to Lesedi Kapinga in the 62nd minute. The forward's rasping shot, though, was straight at Ronwen Williams.
Rusike made sure of the result eight minutes later as he continued his scoring form. The goal-provider turned scorer as he topped a weaving run with an expert finish.
SuperSport weren't done just yet and made it four in the 87th minute. Ndlovu did well to deny Rusike who broke through on goal, but Keene was on hand to pounce on the loose ball to complete his brace and duly seal all three points for the hosts.
