AmaZulu hold City to goalless draw
AmaZulu FC held Polokwane City to a 0-0 draw in an Absa Premiership match at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The draw sees Rise and Shine, and Usuthu remain 12th and 13th respectively on the league standings.
Usuthu were the better side in the opening exchanges as they looked to the break the deadlock and silence the Rise, and Shine supporters.
Ovidy Karuru, who recently inspired AmaZulu to a 2-0 win over SuperSport United, was tightly marked by Polokwane's experienced defender Thapelo Tshilo.
The home side took control of the game after the half-hour mark with Rodney Ramagalela looking lively for Rise and Shine.
However, the visitors were able to contain the current Absa Premiership top goalscorer Ramagalela, who has netted nine goals.
The score was 0-0 at half-time between Polokwane and AmaZulu at the interval following a tightly contested first-half which had few chances.
Cavin Johnson, the Usuthu head coach, made the first change of the game before the second-half began as the visitors looked to take the lead.
Newly signed striker Camaldine Abraw was replaced by AmaZulu's top goalscorer this season, Rhulani Manzini.
With Usuthu applying pressure on the hosts' defence, Bernard Molekwa reacted by introducing Puleng Tlolane in the 65th minute.
The lethal forward had snatched a late equalizing goal for Rise and Shine against SuperSport in Tshwane on Tuesday.
The hosts pushed forward in numbers in the closing stages of the game as they looked to grab a late winning goal.
However, AmaZulu stood firm at the back in the dying minutes and the two sides settled for a 0-0 draw on the day.
