Bloem Celtic host rejuvenated Wits

Bloemfontein Celtic will welcome Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership match at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 3:30pm (CAT, GMT+2).

Phunya Sele Sele extended their winless run in the league to two matches when they drew 0-0 with Chippa United in Port Elizabeth last weekend. They have recorded one win, three draws and one defeat.

As a result, Celtic are placed tenth on the league standings with six points from five games. They are three points behind fourth-placed Kaizer Chiefs, who have played six matches.

Meanwhile, Wits secured their first league win of the season when they humbled Orlando Pirates 1-0 in Johannesburg last weekend. They have registered one win, two draws and three defeats.

The Clever Boys are placed 13th on the league standings with five points from six matches. The defending league champions are a point above the relegation playoff spot.

WHAT THE TEAMS ARE SAYING

Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Lucky Baloyi:

"Look, our preparations have gone very well so far. The mood in the camp is good since we drew with Chippa (United) in our last league match. We are now looking to build on that result," said Baloyi.

"We will be facing Wits at home - in front of our passinate supporters. So, it's very important for us to collect maximum points against Wits. We need to start climbing up the league table."

Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt:

“It’s difficult to play against a team that keeps chasing coaches and players. It’s even tougher when the team is Celtic, away,” Hunt said.

"It doesn’t make it any easier that it’s a day game either. So we realise we can’t expect an easy game with their fans behind them. Any result is a good result. We are not getting carried away, we just can’t afford to drop any more points.”

Bloemfontein Celtic key players

Lucky Baloyi: The central midfielder is now enjoying his football again at Phunya Sele Sele and he has been influential in the middle of the park. The former Kaizer Chiefs player will be keen to help his side record their second league victory of the season.

Ndumiso Mabena: The striker is slowly finding his feet in the Phunya Sele Sele team - having joined the club prior to the current season. The former Orlando Pirates forward has already scored twice for Celtic and he will look to inspire his side to victory at home.

Bidvest Wits key players

Reeve Frosler: The 19-year-old has been one of Clever Boys' most outstanding players despite the team's poor start. The right-back, who recently received his maiden Bafana Bafana call-up, will be hoping to continue his good form against Celtic.

Gerald Phiri Jr: The left-winger is oozing with confidence after scoring on his league debut for Wits against Orlando Pirates. The Malawian international will now be hoping to inspire the team to another victory.
