Kaizer Chiefs moved into third position on the Betway Premiership table this weekend following a clinical 3-2 win over Siwelele at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Sunday night.

After back-to-back draws against Mamelodi Sundowns and Richards Bay, well-taken strikes by Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba and Faiz Abrahams were enough for Chiefs to grab maximum points against the Bloemfontein side.

Amakhosi were all over their opponents during the opening exchanges of the game, with Pule Mmodi and Mduduzi Shabalala creating goal-scoring chances early on.

The Soweto giants continued to pressure Siwelele as the first quarter approached while the latter battled to progress the ball up field.

Wandile Duba threatened in the 22nd minute and watched a left-footed shot go wide of the mark following a sustained period of possession inside the Siwelele half.

Chiefs broke the deadlock at the half-hour mark following a swift transition move from their own half.

After being played through on goal by Lebohang Maboe, Vilakazi spotted the opposing goalkeeper rushing off his line before executing a well-weighted chip into the back of the net.

Amakhosi continued to boss the game thereafter and starved Siwelele of possession leading up to the break.

DEBUT GOALS

Siwelele attempted to get on the scoresheet on a couple of occasions at the restart with Sphesihle Jeza creating two-goal scoring chances in quick succession.

At the other end of the pitch, Chiefs took the direct route in attempting to score their second goal with Vilakazi and Maboe having a go at goal from range shortly before the hour mark.

The Glamour Boys doubled their advantage from a corner situation in the 65th minute as Duba got in on the action.

With the ball swung in from Shabalala, Duba found himself in the right place at the right time to guide home a flicked effort from the centre of the box.

Siwelele responded immediately as Aphiwe Baliti added his name to the scoreboard three minutes after Duba’s strike.

After progressing up field, Baliti let off a shot that was deflected en-route to goal as he notched his first goal in professional football.

From one debut goal to another, Chiefs added their third in the 77th minute as Faiz Abrahams scored his first goal for the PSL giants.

After being awarded a free-kick from an acute angle on the left side of the pitch, the former Cape Town Spurs youngster dispatched his effort in style with a curling effort beyond the goalkeeper.

Despite Chiefs’ dominance, Siwelele drew one back deep into stoppage time following a strike by second-half substitute Michel Nguessan, who capitalised with a right-footed shot into the top-left corner after a fast break.
