Chippa stun AmaZulu

Chippa United secured a 2-0 victory over AmaZulu in an Absa Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.

The victory takes the Chilli Boys to the fourth spot on the league standings, while Usuthu slip down to position seven on the log.

The home side started brightly and they threatened through Mark Mayambela, who unleashed a powerful shot which missed the target seven minutes into the game.

AmaZulu goalkeeper Boalefa Pule was then called into action ten minutes later and he did well to deny new Chippa midfielder Kurt Lentjies, who had played a good cross as the hosts pressd Usuthu.

With his side struggling to penetrate the Chilli Boys defence, AmaZulu midfielder Michael Morton tried his luck from range in the 26th minute and Chippa keeper Brighton Mhlongo made an easy save.

The deadlock was finally broken eight minutes before the halftime break when Moeketsi Sekola hit the back of the from close range to make it 1-0 to Chippa much to the delight of the home crowd.

The Chilli Boys nearly doubled their lead three minutes later, but this time Pule was alert and he denied Zephaniah Mbokoma to ensure that first-half ended with Chippa leading 1-0.

The home side were in control of the match in the early stages of the second-half as hard-working midfielder Sandile Zuke dictated terms from the middle of the park for the Chilli Boys.

Upfront Sekola and former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lentjies were combining nicely as they looked to penetrate the Usuthu defence and double their lead.

AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson then decided to introduce veteran forward Siyabonga Nomvethe for Augustine Ramphele in the 65th minute as the visitors searched for the equalising goal.

However, the Chilli Boys continued to dominate possession and they deservedly doubled their lead in the closing stages of the action-packed encounter.

Abel Mabaso was the man who doubled Chippa's lead in the 81st minute with his first goal for the Chilli Boys, who then held on to their lead in the late stages of the match and they ran out 2-0 winners.
