Bartlett records first win as Tuks coach

The University of Pretoria returned to winning ways with a 3-0 hammering of Chippa United in an Absa Premiership match at Tuks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Willem Mwedihanga, Thabo Mosadi and Getaneh Kebede found the back of the net to exact some revenge for the 4-0 defeat they suffered in the Eastern Cape earlier this season.

The win is Shaun Bartlett's first as head coach of AmaTuks and moves the capital side within a point of Jomo Cosmos who lost 4-2 at home to SuperSport United.

Both teams squandered a glorious chance to open the scoring in the 17th minute. After Aristide Bance was superbly denied by Tristyn Coetsee from close range while Ian Chikohwa was guilty of blazing his effort over the crossbar from the counter-attack.

In dire need of all three points, Bartlett urged his players to get forward, leaving a lot space for the Chilli Boys on the break.

Partson Juare was lucky to escape with a yellow card after bringing down Joseph Malongoane who was clear on goal in the 25th minute.

Mwedihanga opened the scoring 10 minutes later. The Tuks captain heading home from a corner-kick as the hosts headed into the break 1-0 up.

Thabo Mosadi had the desired impact off the bench, scoring three minutes after making his way onto the park. The winger burst down the right flank before firing past Daniel Akpeyi from an acute angle to double Tuks lead just after the hour mark, 2-0.

Getaneh Kebede put the result beyond any reasonable doubt in the 71st minute. The Ethiopian striker stabbing in from close range after Akpeyi denied Thabo Mnyamane, 3-0.

The Chilli Boys remain sixth on the log standings despite the loss while Tuks are in 15th place, only a point behind Jomo Cosmos who last 4-2 to SuperSport United also on Saturday afternoon.
