Stellies seeking first cup win over Amakhosi

Stellenbosch FC will host Kaizer Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for their Nedbank Cup quarterfinal fixture on Saturday, as they chase their first victory over Chiefs in cup competition.
Due to the Stellenbosch municipality banning fixtures against Chiefs from taking place at the Danie Craven Stadium and the unavailability of any stadiums in Cape Town, the clash has been moved to Gqeberha.
Kick-off is at 6pm CAT.
CURRENT FORM
Stellenbosch FC are currently in third place on the Betway Premiership log after defeating Marumo Gallants 1-0 on Tuesday, edging Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City on goal difference.
The Maroons are on a fine run of form and are unbeaten in their last six outings, with their last loss coming against Chiefs in early February.
Stellies are aiming to add the Nedbank Cup to their trophy cabinet, having fallen short in their previous attempts.
Kaizer Chiefs have struggled to find form of their own with two losses, two wins and one draw from their last five Betway Premiership fixtures. They currently sit eighth on the log.
Despite their inconsistency in the Betway Premiership, AmaKhosi have made light work of their Nedbank Cup opponents so far, dispatching Free Agents 4-0 and easing past Chippa United 3-0 at home.
Chiefs have enjoyed a good record against The Maroons, having won eight of the sides’ 15 encounters, with three losses and four draws. The two sides have faced each other on three occasions in cup competitions, with AmaKhosi winning all three.
WHAT WAS SAID
Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker made his feelings on the venue decision known following his side’s win over Marumo Gallants on Tuesday.
“It's not good for us as a team, as a club and it’s not good for our fans. It is disappointing,” said Barker.
“Obviously, the first disappointment is that it's not the first time, and it doesn't seem like it's going to be the last time that there won't be a stadium available for matches.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Fawaaz Basadien is a major contributor for Stellies, both on attack and defence. The Bafana Bafana player has been a key provider for his teammates this season and will be hard to contain on both ends of the pitch.
Makabi Lilepo will be a key contributor for Chiefs, coming off the back of a man of the match performance in their midweek victory over Magesi. The Congolese national scored the winner in the last clash between the two sides and will be looking to add another to his tally.
