Stellenbosch and Magesi set for first ever Betway Prem meeting

Stellenbosch hosts Magesi in the league in what will be the first meeting between the sides in the topflight.

The sides met in the second tier when it was known as National First Division in the 2016-17 season, Stellenbosch won the first meeting 2-0 away on the 17th September 2016. Nathan Gertse and Letsie Koapeng scored for Stellenbosch.

In the 2nd meeting in the MFC on the 15th February 2017, Stellenbosch were hosts in a 1-1 draw. James Bell scored for Stellenbosch and Thabo Mokgalushi for Magesi.

Stellenbosch against the Limpopo sides this season, have played two games and drawn both.

Stellenbosch are unbeaten against the sides presently in the league’s bottom five their record reads P4 W2 D2. They have scored five goals and conceded one.

Against teams presently in the bottom five Stellenbosch claimed wins at home, winning 3-0 against Cape Town City and 1-0 against Marumo Gallants. They drew 0-0 away and 1-1 at home against Richards Bay.

Stellenbosch since being promoted to the topflight, when playing a newly promoted side for the first time have played five times, their record reads P5 W1 D2 L2.

Against newly promoted teams in their first game against them in the 2020-21 campaign, Stellenbosch drew 1-1 at home to Moroka Swallows. In 2021-22, they drew 1-1 away to Sekhukhune United. They lost 2-1 to Richards Bay at home in 2022-23 and last season they lost 1-0 to Polokwane City away and won 3-0 against Cape Town Spurs on the road.

Magesi are unbeaten against the Western Cape sides this season, playing both games against Cape Town City (W1 D1).

Against Western Cape opponents this season Magesi defeated Cape Town City 2-0 at home and drew 0-0 away. They have scored two goals and conceded none against the Western Cape sides so far this season.
