It was not a very entertaining start to the match with both teams squandering possession due to poor passing and bad decision making.

Baroka, though, found their rhythm and took the lead in the 16th minute when Phelelani Mfanafuthi Shozi played Kambala into space just inside the box and he made no mistake with a clinical finish, 1-0.

Marumo almost hit back five minutes later when Maboke Matlakala went on a good run down the right, but he saw his powerful shot from an acute angle on the edge of the box well-saved by the keeper.

Just after the half hour mark the home side were able to double their lead thanks to a stinging left-footed shot from Evidence Makgopa on the edge of the box that found the corner of the net, 2-0.

Marumo tried to find their way back into the match and threw players forward in the dying minutes of the half, but they were unable to create any significant scoring chances.

Baroka took a two-goal lead into the half time break.

Two minutes into the second half Baroka almost scored a third, but Nhlanhla Mgaga’s long-range shot shaved the wrong side of the woodwork.

Marumo were not going to go down without a fight and started mounting some attacks of their own with Celimpilo Ngema trying his luck from just outside the box, but his effort went narrowly wide of the target.

Chances after that were few and far between with the next significant chance coming in the 78th minute for the visitors. Thabo Mnyamane played a nice through ball for Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, but he was superbly denied by the keeper from close range.

Murumo through players forward in search of some kind of consolation in the final ten minutes, but Baroka were able to hold on for a 2-0 win.
