Hammersdale to host MDC season 5 opener

Top flight football will make a long-awaited return to the community of Hammersdalein KwaZulu Natal for the first festival of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (PSL Reserve League) at Hammersdale Stadium this coming Sunday.

The move to take the festival to Hammersdale is in line with the founding principles of the Diski Challenge – to take football closer to the communities and also to areas that are starved of top flight football.

The 2018/19 MultiChoice Diski Challenge season will kick-off this coming weekend – with the first stand-alone games scheduled for Saturday, 08 September 2018.

The festival in Hammersdale will be played over one day – on Sunday, 09 September 2018.

Entry is free at the festival but members of the public will be issued with a ticket as part of access control. Tickets will be available at the stadium ticket office on Friday from 13h00. Only two tickets will be allocated per person on a first-come-first-served basis.

The opening festival will see six clubs battling it out: Maritzburg United, AmaZulu FC, Lamontville Golden Arrows, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Lamontville Golden Arrows, the two-time holders of the Diski Challenge, will be looking for a third title - another new record. Mamelodi Sundowns and University of Pretoria are the two other sides who have lifted the trophy.

Winners of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge will once again be rewarded with an international tour to a destination that has not been announced yet where they will play friendly matches and receive training from some of the best youth coaches in the world.

A lucky fan will also accompany the winning team on the international tour.

All Diski Challenge matches are broadcast live on SuperSport 4 (DStv channel 204) and SuperSport 10 (DStv channel 210) and on community TV channels available on DStv.
