Highlands stretch lead in NFD

Round 13 of the 2017/18 National First Division season saw the trailing pack allow Highlands Park to open up a four-point gap at the top of the log, as they established themselves as the favourites for automatic promotion.
The Lions of the North put up the performance of the round when they claimed a 3-0 win away to Richards Bay on Saturday, with Lindokuhle Mbatha, Peter Shalulile and an own goal that saw them rake a a total of 26 points.
Their nearest chasers are a trio of clubs all on 22 points: Jomo Cosmos (who were held 2-2 at Witbank Spurs), Pretoria University (beaten 2-1 at home by Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila) and Mbombela United, who won 2-1 at home to Mthatha Bucks on Sunday.
Stellenbosch are breathing down the necks of the chasing pack after their 1-0 win at home to Super Eagles on Friday night, while Ubuntu Cape Town went back to losing form after they lost 2-0 at home to derby rivals Cape Town All Stars.
The NFD will continue next weekend with a full round of fixtures from December 8-10.
