"This game comes at the right time"

Kaizer Chiefs captain Jimmy Tau says the crucial Absa Premiership clash against Mamelodi Sundowns has come at a good time for them as they challenge for league honours.

“This could not have come at a better time; it is a game that we are motivated for as we all know what is at stake. The players are aware of this and ready for this clash,” Tau said.

“There’s nine points to be won and we can do it. We know that mathematically if we lose this game it makes it very difficult to challenge for the league title.”

Chiefs are third with 53 and Sundowns are fourth with 51, both are chasing log leaders Orlando Pirates who have 56 points. With three games to go both clubs cannot afford to lose or draw.

“Yes we beat them earlier this season and it does boost us,” he said of the first round clash that Chiefs won 1-0. “But we cannot rely on that only going in to this match. They have made changes to their team as well so it will be very different from the first clash.”

Chiefs’ assistant coach Donald ‘Ace’ Khuse said no motivation is needed to face a team like Sundowns.

“We are challenging for the league title and playing against Sundowns on Sunday, the players need little motivation. They know what is at stake,” the former Chiefs striker said.

The match kicks off at 3pm at Loftus Stadium and will be shown live on SS4.
