Battle for survival, play-off spot is on
The National First Division championship might have been wrapped up a fortnight ago, but another battle will be playing itself out on ‘Super Sunday’, 14 May 2017.
The two Promotion Play-off spots are up for grabs while the battle for survival will go to the last day of the National First Division.
After Wednesday’s NFD results which saw Black Leopards defeat AmaTuks 1-0, the Limpopo-based outfit booked their place in the Play-offs (with 50 points). AmaZulu, currently third, are on 47 points followed by Stellenbosch FC on 46 points. Royal Eagles, on fifth, are on 45 points and are still within a mathematic chance of reaching the Promotion Play-offs.
Amazulu will face FC Cape Town in the last crucial match of the NFD season on Sunday at Parow Park.
FC Cape Town have their own fair share of problems. Currently placed 15th, the Parow-based team are facing a real danger of relegation. They are on equal points with 14th-placed Magesi FC but Magesi have a better goal difference.
Santos has already been relegated to the ABC Motsepe League.
Stellenbosch FC, who will be facing Santos, were put in a difficult position after being defeated by Milano United last week. They desperately need a victory against Santos and hope for AmaZulu to drop points against FC Cape Town.
