NFD: The leading marksmen

It’s up in the KZN where the goals are flowing – the top four goal-scorers in the National First Division are all from that region.

12 Goals: Mlengi Cele (Thanda Royal Zulu)

Cele has been in sensational form – his 12 goals have come in only nine matches. Indeed, having failed to score in three of his games, the 12 have actually arrived in six matches, including four against Witbank Spurs and three away to FC Cape Town. The 29-year-old is in his second spell at Thanda having spent the last two seasons at Chippa.

9 Goals: Sedwyn George (Royal Eagles)

George netted four goals in only 11 games last season for Eagles, his first in the pro ranks. The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has continued in the same vein this season – his nine goals have come from seven appearances with all nine arriving in three games – three against FC Cape Town, four against Magesi and two against Milano.

8 Goals: Raymond Monama (Royal Eagles)

The former Sundowns, Polokwane City, AmaTuks and Black Leopards midfielder is making a success of his second season in Durban, having failed to hit the net in 19 matches for Eagles last season. The red-hot 27-year-old has found the goal in five of his side’s last six games, helping Eagles climb to third on the table.

6 Goals: Siyabonga Nomvethe (AmaZulu)

The veteran former Bafana Bafana marksman is still banging in the goals a month away from his 39th birthday. The former Kaizer Chiefs forward has played in every minute of every game and looks set to surpass the seven goals he got in 16 matches for Usuthu last season after a mid-season move from Moroka Swallows.

* Mazwi Mncube of Mthatha Bucks is on five goals. The following players all have four goals this season: Ivan Mahangwahaya (Black Leopards), Siyabonga Madikane (Mbombela United), Gregory Roelf (Milano United), Letsi Koapeng (Stellenbosch FC), Innocent Maela (Thanda).
