Last chance for Cosmos

“We are going to give it our all on Saturday” confirms Jomo Cosmos’ Bamuza Sono ahead of his side’s final Absa Premiership match of the 2009/10 PSL season against Moroka Swallows.

The match will take place at the Dobsonville stadium on Saturday afternoon, kick-off at 3:30pm.

Cosmos will be looking to avoid direct relegation when they take on the Birds in Soweto and will do so with their backs against the wall. Currently in last position on the table, only one point behind MP Black Aces, this will be Cosmos’ last chance to save their PSL lives.

“We know this is our last chance. We have to win our match and hope the result in the Aces match goes our way. But we have to focus on doing our part first” added Sono.

The Ezenkosi do need the result in the Aces game to go their way if they want to stand any chance of surviving in the South African top flight. The bottom line is that Cosmos will need Aces to lose and they will either have to draw their match or win it to avoid direct relegation.

But finding a victory for Cosmos against the Birds will be no easy task. Swallows are in fine form at the moment and have gone unbeaten in their last seven league games with their most recent league match ending in a 1-0 win over Platinum Stars.

According to the Birds captain, Lefa Tsutsulupa, the foremost thing on his mind is to secure a top eight finish, “We want to win against Cosmos to make sure we finish in the top eight. That is the most important thing right now.”

Currently Swallows are in eighth place on 39 points, which is three ahead of AmaZulu. However, should the Birds lose to Cosmos and AmaZulu win; the KwaZulu-Natal side will go above them on the log because of goal difference.

Tsutsulupa knows the match against the Ezenkosi will be no walk in the park, “We know Cosmos are fighting for their lives and they will be dangerous, but we also need the win. A successful season for us depends on finishing in the top eight and we will fight for the win to assure that.”

Cosmos have certainly shown they can be dangerous and this was none more highlighted than in their last league match where they beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0. Still Swallows will be confident going into the match because when these two teams met earlier in the 2009/10 PSL season the Birds walked away winners by two goals to nil.

One thing is for sure: when these two sides take the field on Saturday a lot will be on the line for both and we are ensured of an exciting clash with lots of action and drama. The team who wants it the most will more than likely walk away victorious.
