Arrows, Celtic clash ends in draw

Lamontville Golden Arrows had to settle for another point when their Absa Premiership clash against Bloemfontein Celtic ended in a 1-1 draw at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.

The visitors opened the scoring early in the second half through Frank Mhango but Manti Moholo replied a few minutes later to claim a share of the spoils for the home side.

The visitors came close to taking the lead in the opening minute of the game when Wandisile Letlabika was given room to shoot outside the penalty area, but his shot was pushed wide by Arthur Bartman.

Nine minutes later Lerato Lamola was played through on goal but Siyanda Zwane came across quickly to dispossess him with a clean tackle near the penalty spot.

Arrows had their first chance in the 16th minute when Festus Mbewe met Thembela Sikhakhane’s with an overhead attempt which went wide of the target.

Six minutes later, Mbewe cut the ball back towards Manti Moholo who was lurking just outside the box, but his shot was saved comfortably by Patrick Tignyemb.

Then it was the visitors who asked the questions at the other end with Frank Mhango forcing a low save from Bartman in the 26th minute, before drawing a similar save in the 35th minute.

Arrows had another opportunity in the 39th minute when Zwane broke into the box on the right before unleashing a ferocious shot which sailed narrowly across goal and wide of the far post.

The hosts were forced into firing another effort from range in the 43rd minute but Rudolf Bester drilled his low shot straight at Tignyemb.

Celtic broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when Tumelo Mogapi squared the ball from the left to pick out Mhango inside the box, who then buried his left-footed shot past Bartman.

Arrows levelled matters in the 65th minute as substitute Philani Shange found Moholo outside the box, who then fired a shot which deflected off a defender and the inside of the post

Celtic then threatened to regain the lead a minute later with Lamola racing into the box from the left before forcing Bartman to make a solid save at the near post.

The visitors were reduced to ten men in the 75th minute when Tumelo Mogapi was shown a straight red card for a studs-up tackle on Arrows captain Thanduyise Khuboni.

Both sides pressed forward for the winner in the dying minutes but it was the hosts who had the clearer chances with Bongi Ntuli missing the target from inside the box in added time, while Mbewe was denied by a brilliant block from a defender.
