Celtic win five goal thriller

Bloemfontein Celtic came out on top in a five goal thriller at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night as the Phunya Sele Sele ran out 3-2 winners over Absa Premiership newcomers Polokwane City.

It was the perfect start for Clinton Larsen and his men as they took the lead in the second minute of the match.

A clever through pass from Thabo Nthethe saw Ruzaigh Gamildien on the ball and he produced a deadly finish to hand the Phunya Sele Sele the lead, 1-0.

Their lead, however, only lasted three minutes before a lapse in concentration allowed the home side to equalise.

Siphesihle Nzimande whipped a dangerous ball into the box and with Celtic unable to clear, Kekaetfwe Moloi latched onto the ball with a fine finish to restore parity, 1-1.

The newcomers to the PSL then nearly took the lead in the ninth minute as Tshepho Tema met a free-kick cross from Mothusi Gopane, but he saw his effort go narrowly wide.

In the 26th minute Celtic had their next decent chance on goal, but Gamildien failed to keep his powerful shot from just outside the box on target as it sailed wide.

The game feel into a bit of a lull after that as neither team was able to hold onto the ball for sustained periods of play.

The last chance of the half came in the 42nd minute as Puleng Tlolane fired on goal after meeting a Gopane free-kick, but Patrick Tignyemb was on hand to make a brilliant save.

The second 45 was a rather dull affair as neither team looked to threatening in attack which resulte din chance on goal being few and far between.

Still, Celtic persisted and found their second goal in the 74th minute courtesy of second half substitute Roderick Mutuma who was on the end of a Letsie Koapeng pass with a cool finish, 2-1.

The result was then put beyond doubt eight minutes later as Joel Mogorosi found Celtic’s third goal to wrap up their first win of the league season, 3-1.

Polokwane did manage to find a consolation goal in the 88th minute through Siphesihle Nzimande, 3-2.
