Arrows remain winless in Bloem

Bloemfontein Celtic continued their unbeaten run against Golden Arrows at home when they defeated them 1-0 at the Free State Stadium in their Absa Premiership fixture on Sunday afternoon.

It was a game which lacked chances on either end of the field and it took until the 74th minute before the hosts grabbed the lead through Joel Mogorosi.

Three points is all that separated the two teams coming into the game and Bloemfontein Celtic were in desperate need to turn around their home form after having lost and drawn their last two encounters.

There were concerns about the state of the patchy field and it undoubtedly had an effect on the tempo of the game as the opening 20 minutes saw little action and plenty of misplaced passes.

Celtic tried to threaten with a ball through to Joel Mogorosi, but he was caught offside in the 24th minute of play.

Cedric Gumede was then called into action six minutes later when he parried away a Ruzaigh Gamildien corner-kick which forced the shot-stopper to rush off his line to make the save.

A great chance to take the lead was squandered by Rodrick Mutuma when he failed to get a decent connection from Limbikani Mzava’s first time cross to send the effort wide of goal - some great build-up play by the Phunya Sele Sele in the 39th minute.

That was then followed up by a great save by Gumede when he denied Joel Mogorosi in a one-on-one situation, sending the two teams into the break sitting 0-0.

The visitors responded to the second half in a great manner when Bongi Ntuli struck an excellent shot which forced Patrick Tignyemb into making a great save.

In the 62nd minute Lennnox Bacela was added into the fray for the hosts, in hope of adding the clinical finishing needed to win the game.

Clinton Larsen’s side’s hard work finally paid off when they broke the deadlock, with 15 minutes to spare, after Mogorosi burst into the box and struck the ball over an onrushing Gumede following a great pass by Bacela.

That goal proved to be enough for the hosts as they managed to maintain their 1-0 lead to bring home the trio of points in a game which lacked chances in front of goal.
