Sundowns drop points in Polokwane

Mamelodi Sundowns huffed and puffed but were unable to find the back of the net in a 0-0 Absa Premiership draw away to Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday evening.

The Brazilians struggled to create any notable chances throughout the 90 minutes and pay the price as they fall further behind Kaizer Chiefs on the league standings.

Pitso Mosimane's men are now seven points off the Amakhosi who extended their lead at the summit with a 1-0 win over Chippa United. Baroka fall to 15th place on the log standings and into the relegation zone as a result.

The first shot in anger fell at Tebogo Langerman's feet in the 18th minute with his shot whistling inches wide of goal.

Sundowns ended the half strongly with a lot of ball possession in the final third, but without any real cutting edge, with the absence of Gaston Sirino and Themba Zwane a real miss against a compact defence.

Gerald Phiri Jnr lined up a trademark free-kick after the break, but pushed his effort wide as Baroka aimed to break their winless run on home soil.

Sundowns finally conjured another chance at goal with 75 minutes on the clock as the ball fell to Lebohang Maboe on the edge of the area, but Elvis Chipezeze was well positioned to make a good save.

Bakgaga ended the game with 10-men as Matome Kgoetyane received his marching orders for a reckless tackle on Tebogo Langerman in stoppage-time, but it mattered little as the game ended in a bore draw.
