Maritzburg register a win to climb above Baroka

Maritzburg United recorded a second Absa Premiership win in succession with a 1-0 victory over Baroka FC at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday evening.

Mxolisi Kunene scored the only goal of the game as the midfielder followed a man-of-the-match performance with a match-winning performance. Victory moves the Team of Choice up to 11th, above Baroka who drop down to 12th following a third successive defeat.

The only goal of the game came in the 54th minute as Kunene weaved his way into the area before finding the back of the net, albeit through a kind deflection.

Maritzburg continued to dominate proceedings and Kunene came close to doubling his lead 11 minutes later, but Elvis Chipezeze was quick off his line to deny him at point-blank range.

Judas Moseamedi missed a further chance soon after, but it mattered little as the hosts held on for all three points.
