Ke Yona team ready to take on Matsatsantsa

The gloves are off and the battleground is set for the hugely popular clash between the dynamic Nedbank Ke Yona Team and the 2017 Nedbank Cup Champions, SuperSport United. The two teams were part of a Press Conference held at the Nedbank Headquarters on Tuesday, 29 August where they declared their state of readiness for the annual showdown.

SuperSport United are the first team to defend the Nedbank Cup Trophy and are slowly but surely finding their feet under new coach Eric Tinkler after the first few matches of the new PSL season. The team is in high spirits as they anticipate a tough battle against the budding professional footballers.

Speaking at the Ke Yona Team Challenge Press Conference, team selector Owen Da Gama, who forms a part of the coaching quartet said: “The Ke Yona Team, has been through an intense training program for the past seven months and we are confident that they are both mentally and physically ready to take on a team as distinguished as Supersport United, for the honour of being crowned the 2017 Nedbank Ke Yona Team Challenge winners”.

“We have had a few key training sessions that saw us playing against the likes of Gavin Hunt’s Bidvest Wits team and walking away with a 1-1 draw. Through games such as these, the boys have been able to adjust to the pressure that comes with playing against professional teams.

We have set out clear objectives for ourselves as coaches and the entire Ke Yona Team and as we are about to wrap up this year’s campaign, we are proud of the progress that we have made thus far and we are ready to give it our best shot.” concluded Coach Da Gama.

Supersport United Coach Eric Tinkler who previously played against the 2014 Nedbank Ke Yona Team during his time at Orlando Pirates encouraged the Ke Yona Team to ‘Grab the opportunity with both hands as the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search initiative is something you do not see anywhere else in the world.’

The coach further motivated the Ke Yona Team to put their best foot forward.

“Some of our players are with Bafana but we will still be fielding a quality side that will be made up of first team players as well as young Bafana internationals such as Teboho Mokoena and 2014 Nedbank Ke Yona Team graduate Aubrey “Postman” Modiba who many of the current Ke Yona Team players should be looking to emulate”

For the fifth consecutive year, Nedbank is giving away tickets free of charge and fans are urged to head to their nearest Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers stores to redeem their FREE match day tickets. Fans need only to produce their South African Identity Documents to the stores/outlets that have been communicated to claim their tickets, which are limited to two tickets per individual.

Nedbank Sponsorship Manager for Football Properties Tutu Skosana said: ‘’The Ke Yona Challenge is one of the initiatives that we pride ourselves in as money experts who do good. There is no better way to show our commitment of investing in the passion of our clients than by giving away tickets for free and letting aspiring footballers test their skills against the pros” he concluded.

Following this clash, the 18 Ke Yona Team Search players will undergo month-long trials after being drafted into 16 PSL teams, with hopes of securing their first ever professional contracts.

A top notch entertainment line-up is also on the cards for the day from Voice of Tembisa DJ’s as well as Tembisa’s local entertainer Noxious DJ. They are set to ensure that attendees have a memorable footballing experience.
