Chiefs fight back to hold Stars

Siphiwe Tshabalala scored a stoppage time equaliser in Kaizer Chiefs' 2-2 draw against Free State Stars in an Absa Premiership fixture at Goble Park in Bethlehem on Wednesday evening.

Stars took the lead on two occasions through Sthembiso Ngcobo and Nyiko Tshabangu, while Willard Katsande continued his good scoring form for the Glamour Boys with a goal form the penalty spot.

The stalemate is Chiefs' 13th of the season and leaves them in fourth place on the log standings.

Eager to drive his side to victory, Tshabalala went on the offensive early on as a flowing move culminated in a chance for the Amakhosi skipper who forced Daouda Diakite into a good save on nine minutes.

Stars, though, opened the scoring on the night through former Chiefs striker Ngcobo. Mothusi Gopane pounced on a defensive mistake before teeing up his Ea Lla Koto teammate as the burly forward put a powerful header past Itumeleng Khune in the 15th minute.

A comical error by Diakite almost gifted Chiefs the equaliser in the 27th minute. The goalkeeper was guilty of kicking the ball straight at George Lebese, who failed to find the back of the net.

Lebese then set up Eric Mathoho, but the Chiefs defender failed to hit the target from point blank range - much to the surprise of his teammates.

'Tower', though, didn't have to rue his missed chance for too long as the Glamour Boys pulled level through Katsande in the 41st minute. The Zimbabwe international delivered a cool finish from 12 yards out after Reneilwe Letsholonyane was fouled inside the area.

The goal was Katsande's seventh of the season.

Tshabangu restored the hosts' lead in the 54th minute, making up for his foul on Yeye in the first half. Mathoho's clearance fell favourably for the midfielder who struck home a crisp left-footed volley.

Tshabalala earned Chiefs a point in the first minute of stoppage time after Stars failed to clear their lines and the former Ea Lla Koto ace produced a composed finish from inside the penalty area.
