Celtic win thriller against Dikwena

Lyle Lakay scored a goal and created two as Bloemfontein Celtic beat Platinum Stars 3-2 in an Absa Premiership match played at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Phokeng on Wednesday night.

It was end to end action in the opening stages of the match, but both sides lacked accuracy in their shooting with numerous goalscoring chances squandered.

Celtic came close to opening the scoring in the 16th minute when a shot from Musa Nyatama was superbly saved by the fingertips of Dikwena goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela.

Just on the half hour mark Celtic did manage to take the lead when Lakay played Thapelo Morena through on goal and he made no mistake with just the keeper to beat.

Platinum Stars tried to find their way back into the match, but went into the half-time break trailing by a goal.

The home side came out strong in the second half and did manage to level matters in the 49th minute when Eleazar Rodgers headed home a Vuyo Mere cross.

Three minutes later Platinum Stars took the lead after a long-range shot from Letladi Madubanya found the corner of the goal.

On the hour mark Lakay restored parity once more after a powerful 24-yard free-kick from the Celtic man hit the back of the net to make it 2-2.

Lakay turned provider in the 74th minute when a clever pass from him set substitute Fiston Abduol Razak into space and he duly finished, giving Celtic the lead for the second time.

Platinum Stars were afforded a chance to steal a point in the dying seconds of the game when Musa Nyatama brought down Ndumiso Mabena inside the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Vuyo Mere stepped up for the home side, but saw his penalty brilliantly saved by Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb.

The win sees Celtic move up to tenth on the league table with 35 points while Platinum Stars remain in third place with 47 points, only a point above fourth-placed Kaizer Chiefs.
