United run riot against Arrows

SuperSport United’s attacking trio of Dove Wome, Kingston Nkhatha and Jeremy Brockie scored a goal apiece to guide the Pretoria club to a 3-0 Absa Premiership win over Golden Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Wome and Nkhatha found the back of the net in the opening half-hour, with Brockie adding the icing on the cake after Siyabonga Dube saw red for the KwaZulu-Natal side.

Matsatsantsa made their intentions clear in the opening minute, with Maximilian Mbaeva forced into a save from a Luvolwethu Mpeta cross, and after Thuso Phala dragged his shot wide a few moments later, Wome opened the scoring on four minutes.

All four attacking players were involved, with Jeremy Brockie, Nkhatha and Thuso Phala exchanging one-touch passes to open space for the Togo international, who fired into the back of the net.

The referee awarded SuperSport a penalty after Chris Katjiukua was adjudged to have fouled Clayton Daniels inside the area, a contentious decision by the official leaving Clinton Larsen fuming.

Kingston Nkhahta duly stepped up to double the visitors’ lead, guiding the ball into the bottom left corner from 12 yards just before the half-hour.

Phala should've made it 3-0 in the 36th minute, but having found a pocket of space in the area, the SuperSport winger could only succeed in guiding his shot over the crossbar.

As for Arrows, they failed to offer anything in attack in the opening stanza, with Ronwen Williams untested in the first-half.

Abafana Bes’thende showed more intent after the break and went close to pulling a goal back through Kudakwashe Mahachi on 64 minutes. Poor goalkeeping by Williams gifted the Zimbabwean a shot at goal, but Mario Booysen was well positioned to clear off the line and spare his keeper’s blushes.

Just as Arrows were dominating play, poor discipline led to Dube receiving his marching orders following a second bookable offence in the 72nd minute.

Brockie latched onto a low ball from Michael Morton in the 87th minute, his10th league goal of the season putting the result beyond any doubt. Three points move SuperSport above Arrows on the log standings, level on points with Ajax Cape Town in ninth.
