Ndoro brace dump Chiefs out of Cup

A stunning second-half brace from Tendai Ndoro booked Orlando Pirates a place in the next round of the Nedbank Cup with a 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With extra-time looming, up stepped Ndoro who produced two goals of the highest order to book the Buccaneers place in the Round of 16.

Pirates bossed the opening exchanges and should've been a goal up after 10 minutes.

Ndoro, in for Lehlohonolo Majoro, was eager to make his mark and having left Erick Mathoho in his wake the Zimbabwe forward failed to beat ,Reyaad Pieterse, who made a good save at his near post.

Another player desperate to impress, Gift Motupa, then squandered a glorious chance on seven minutes. Pieterse missed Thabo Rakhale's low cross and with the goal at his mercy ,Motupa failed to find the back of the net with Morgan Gould doing well to unsettle the South Africa under-23 star.

Having struggled to contain their rivals, Kaizer Chiefs found their rhythm through the inspirational Siphiwe Tshabalala who was brilliantly denied by Thabo Matlaba before drawing Brighton Mhlongo into a top save in the 38th minute.

The Amakhosi ended the half on the front foot with Bernard Parker sending his stinging effort inches wide - three minutes before the break.

Chances were few and far between in the second stanza and with fear of another goalless Soweto Derby, Ndoro came to the rescue in the 77th minute. Mpho Makola thread the eye of the needle to create space for Ndoro who's brilliant first touch set him up for the finish.

Chiefs pressed forward in search of the equaliser and with Tshabalala lurking at the back post, up popped Thabo Qalinge to clear from danger in the 82nd minute.

Ndoro put the game to bed two minutes later with a powerful drive from long range. Makola played a free-kick short for the Pirates striker who hammered home his second in only his third start of the season.
