Ea Lla Koto win balttle of the Stars

Moeketsi Sekola's late strike helped Free State Stars beat Platinum Stars 2-1 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Moruleng Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The home side were in control of the opening stages of the game - keeping Ea Lla Koto's defence very busy. However, the visitors played much better in the second-half.

In the 12th minute, Dikwena winger Masibusane Zongo unleashed a shot from range which sailed over shot-stopper Dauoda Diakite's goal-posts.

Former AmaZulu keeper Mzimela was called into action nine minutes later when he dived to deny Ea Lla Koto midfielder Lucky Mohomi.

It was end to end stuff as Dikwena striker Ndumiso Mabena forced Burkina Faso shot-stopper Diakite into a comfortable save in the 32nd minute.

South Africa under-23 international full-back Siyabonga Zulu became the first player to be booked two minutes later following a foul on Sello Japhta.

Three minutes later Tanzanian striker Mrisho Ngasa unleashed a well-taken shot which was easily saved by Dikwena keeper Mzimela.

However, former Orlando Pirates striker Mabena broke the deadlock with a right-footed strike two minutes before the interval.

It took only six minutes for the visitors to restore parity after the restart. Ea Lla Koto captain Paulus Masehe slotted home with his right foot to make it 1-1.

Ea Lla Koto midfielder Mohomi tried to respond with a goal in the 57th minute, but his shot went wide of the target.

In the 69th minute former Orlando Pirates forward Mabena found some space to pull the trigger from range, but the ball went over the cross-bar.

However, the visitors were awarded a penalty ten minutes later when Moeketsi Sekola was brought down by Sibusiso Gumede inside the box.

Last season's Absa Premiership Golden Boot winner Sekola then stepped up and handed Ea Lla Koto the lead from spot-kick, 2-1.

With four minutes left on the clock, substitute Andrea Fileccia took a shot from range and it went wide of the target.

Ea Lla Koto held onto their lead in the remaining minutes and recorded a 2-1 win over Dikwena in Moruleng.
