Celtic edge SuperSport

Bloemfontein Celtic claimed a fourth successive Absa Premiership win when they defeated SuperSport United 1-0 at Free State Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Phunya Sele Sele’s Alfred Ndengane scored the only goal of the game, condemning Matsatsantsa to a third successive league loss.

Celtic first threatened through Keegan Ritchie, who struck a shot direct from a free kick just wide of the target in the eighth minute.

The team in green and white generally enjoyed the better of the match through the first half and they opened the scoring on 26 minutes when Alfred Ndengane found the back of the net from Mukuka Mulenga’s assist.

Just under 10 minutes later Lerato Lamola had a sight of goal and looked to double Phunya Sele Sele’s advantage, but the striker put his effort wide of the target.

Chances were few and far between in the second half, with both teams unable to really find an attacking rhythm.

Celtic substitute Jacky Moyshegwa had a chance to kill off the game with a second goal for the hosts in the 84th minute, but he pulled his effort wide of the mark.

The result sees the Bloemfontein side remain in sixth place with 33 points from 22 matches. Matsatsantsa drop to 10th on 27 points from 22 matches.
