Kaizer Chiefs down Edu Sports

Kaizer Chiefs romped to a 4-0 victory over Edu Sports FC in a Nedbank Cup, Last 32 match at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Siphelele Mthembu grabbed a hat-trick of goals with his head while Katlego Mphela also found the back of the net for Chiefs.

The Amakhosi while controlling the game were certainly not at their best in the final third of the field.

Chiefs saw about 80 percent of the possession but were guilty of poor passing and bad decision making which resulted in chances on goal being few and far between.

It took 18 minutes before Chiefs forced the Edu Sports keeper into a save when Siphiwe Tshabalala met a cross from the left, but he was superbly denied by Bongani Dhladhla.

Seconds later, though, Dhladhla was at fault for the goal when he came off his line attempting to punch a right wing cross from Kgotso Moleko, but missed the ball allowing Siphelele Mthembu to head into an empty net, 1-0.

In the 22nd minute Siyabonga Nkosi came close to finding a second goal for the Amakhosi, but his shot form distance went narrowly wide.

Dhladhla produced another great save in the 37th minute, this time denying David Zulu from 16-yards out with an acrobatic dive to his right.

Ivan Bukenya should really have doubled Chiefs’ lead in the dying seconds of the half when he met a Tshabalala corner-kick, but under no pressure he headed wide from eight-yards out.

The second half saw Chiefs pick up where they left off and Dhladhla was called into action once again four minutes after the break when he denied Lorenzo Gordhino at a corner-kick.

In the 63rd minute the Amakhosi did find their second goal when Mthembu headed home a Tshabalala cross, 2-0.

Victory was confirmed in the 84th minute when Katelgo Mphela headed home a Hendrick Ekstein cross, 3-0.

Mthembu did manage to grab his hat-trick in the dying seconds of the match as he headed home a corner-kick from Tshabalala, 4-0.
