Ten men Pirates beat Dikwena

Goals at the end of each half from Lehlohonolo Majoro and Lennox Bacela handed Orlando Pirates a 2-0 win over Platinum Stars in an Absa Premiership match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.

The first half saw Pirates with the majority of the possession and using the width of the pitch to good effect, but their final crosses into the box were poor.

The Buccaneers first effort on goal came in the 15th minute from a corner-kick which was met by Issa Sarr, but his header went narrowly wide.

Stars did not see much of the ball, but did manage to find the back of the net in the 35th minute through Ndumiso Mabena, but the goal was not given because he was adjudged off-sides, wrong so.

Two minutes later Lehlohonolo Majoro was afforded a great chance to open the scoring when he met a Sifiso Myeni cross from the left at the back post, but he shot wide from only a couple of yards out.

Majoro, though, made up for his glaring miss with the game’s first goal in the 45th minute when he was put through on goal by Oupa Manyisa and then proceeded to beat the keeper, 1-0.

The start of the second half was void of goalmouth action, but sprang into life following a straight red card for Majoro in the 62nd minute for stamping on Mahlatsi Makudubela.

Stars took control of possession after that and came close to the equaliser in the 68th minute when Mabena unleashed a ferocious 30-yard shot, but the keeper produced a superb saved to deny him.

Ten minutes later Eleazar Rodgers met a left wing cross, but his header sailed narrowly over the crossbar.

Rodgers was in the thick of the action again in the 85th minute when he juggled the ball inside the Pirates’ box before seeing his eight-yard bicycle-kick strike the woodwork.

The Buccaneers sealed the win in the 90th minute when Lennox Bacela found the back of the net after a goalmouth scramble, 2-0.
