Aces draw 2-2 with Stars

A second half brace ensured Mpumalanga Black Aces salvaged a point after coming from two goals behind to draw 2-2 when they hosted Free State Stars on Saturday afternoon at Mbombela Stadium.

The draw leaves Ea Lla Koto at position 13 with 15 points on the log and the hosts remain at six with 21 points on the Absa premiership log standings.

The game started on a low with both sides loosing balls and fouls were all over the show, but the visitors were the first to draw blood when Camaldine Abraw headed home from an assist by Danny Venter which gave Energy Murambandoro no chance.

Although Tsidiso Tukane and Abia Nale were troublesome for the homeside, Venter and Paulus Masehe continued to give the AmaZayoni defence a hard time.

Following 30 minutes of good football from both sides, Collins Mbesuma missed an easy tap in from a great delivery by Nale down the right flank.

The visitors were affective when going forward as Venter found the back of the net in the 34th minute with a left-footed goal and Abraw was the provider.

Two minutes later, Aces replied when a brilliant pass from Zamuxolo Ngalo into the box found Tendai Ndoro who managed to slot the ball into the far corner.

However, in the 38th minute, Masehe gave Murambandoro something to work on when he unleashed a powerful shot but parried away for a corner.

The first half saw Stars heading to the tunnel with a 2-1 lead, however, the second half didn’t bring many changes as the Bethlehem side continued attacking Clive Barker’s men.

Referee Lwandile Mfiki adjudged Robert Sankara in the 59th minute to have handled the ball in the penalty area and pointed to the spot. Ndoro netted after his first attempt was saved by Glenn Verbauwhede.

Kinnah Phiri introduced Richard Henyekane for Abraw and he nearly found the net on two occasions when he missed a beautiful opportunity from a quick counter attack in the 71’st minute. Again the speedy forward saw his attempt going wide as he tried to curl the ball.

Both sides tried to claim the three points in the last few minutes of the match but failed to convert their chances, settling for the shared spoils.
