Platinum Stars, Celtic share spoils

Platinum Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic shared the spoils in their Absa Premiership match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday as the match ended 0-0.

The opening 45 minutes saw both teams pushing forward in attack, but their finishing in front of goal lacked something to be desired.

The home side had the first effort on goal in the second minute when Lucky Nguzana tried his luck from long range, but he saw his effort well-saved by Patrick Tignyemb.

The game fell into a bit of a dull patch after a lively start and our next effort on goal only came in the 17th minute when Celtic’s Vuyani Ntanga tested the fingertips of Kabelo Dambe, but he was up to the challenge and made a fine save.

A minute later the play was at the other end of the park when Letladi Madubanya met a right-wing cross, but he saw his headed effort go just wide of the target.

In the 27th minute Stars were on the attack again, but Luvolwethu Mpeta’s compass appeared broken as he shot wide from roughly 22-yards out.

Ten minutes later Lucky Nguzana came close to opening the scoring, but he saw his long range shot shave the wrong side of the post.

Celtic had the last say of the half two minutes before the break when Tumelo Mogapi saw his thunderbolt of a shot from the edge of the box go agonisingly wide.

The Phunya Sele Sele started the better of the two teams in the second 45, but their pressure quickly faded out.

In fact, it was a dismal second half with both side’s struggling to hold onto the ball for sustained periods of play.

Chances on gaol were few and far between and in the end neither side could find the break though as the spoils were shared.
