Leaders Downs in tricky Birds clash

Moroka Swallows will attempt to end Mamelodi Sundowns’ hot-streak in the Absa Premiership when the teams meet at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 18h00.

Swallows suffered a third successive league defeat when they were beaten 2-1 away to Bidvest Wits in midweek.

The Soweto side has claimed 18 points from their 13 home matches so far this season.

Their remaining league opponents are Polokwane City (away) and Free State Stars (home).

The Birds are placed 13th on the Absa Premiership log with 30 points from 27 matches.

Sundowns racked up an eighth successive league win with their 1-0 home victory over Mpumalanga Black Aces in midweek.

The Tshwane side has claimed 26 points from their 13 away matches so far this season.

Their remaining league opponents are SuperSport United (home) and Maritzburg United (away).

The Brazilians are placed first on the Absa Premiership log with 58 points from 27 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Swallows and Sundowns have met in 57 league matches since 1985.

The Brazilians have 28 wins compared to 13 for the Birds, while 16 matches have been drawn.

Swallows have won just six of their 29 home matches against Sundowns, suffering 12 defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season in Tshwane, the Brazilians claimed a 2-1 home win thanks to a brace from Mashego.
